Is the piccolo the highest wind instrument or is there another sopranino instrument that goes higher?

Question #65940. Asked by flutebassoon. (May 19 06 4:42 PM)

I was thinking possibly the pan flute but it looks like the piccolo is an octave higher than the flute, and there are also bass flutes and contrabass flutes hope this link is helpful.

The garklein or kleine sopranino recorder has a bottom note an octave higher than the piccolo. Music written for the piccolo starts on middle C, but sounds an octave higher (same as the descant recorder), but the garklein sounds two octaves higher the written. There is also a rare piccolino recorder that starts two octaves above the F above middle C. http://www.saundrecs.co.uk/images/praet_01.jpg
The garklein is on the left, the one in the middle is the common size of recorder - the descant (or in USA soprano). Darned hard to play - I've got small fingers and they're jammed up together. (Mine isn't one of the ones in the pic - I've got an Aulos plastic one which cost about 4 times the descant price.)
