Fred Dalton Thompson might be a workable answer. He was an attorney who got bit parts in TV and movies but, as an active U.S. Senator, he took on the regular role of D.A. Arthur Branch in 1990 in "Law and Order". As best I can tell he's no longer in politics ~ he just plays one who is on TV a lot. May 20 06, 2:04 AM
