The Oireachtas is the "national parliament" or legislature of the Republic of Ireland[1]. The Oireachtas consists of the President of Ireland and two houses: Dáil Éireann and Seanad Éireann (also known as the Senate). However, the directly-elected Dáil is by far the most powerful branch. Both Houses of the Oireachtas currently reside in Leinster House in Dublin, an eighteenth century ducal palace. The legislature is also sometimes known as Oireachtas Éireann.

It is also Gaelic for "Championship" as in the World Championships of Irish Dance being "Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne" and All-Ireland Dance Championships being "Oireachtas Rince na hEireann".
