After several run-ins with the law, Randy Travis got a job in a restaurant/club as a dishwasher, cook and sometime singer. One evening, while taking care of KP duty, he was summoned to the stage. Warner Brothers Records executive Martha Sharp was in the audience. Even though the label had previously turned Travis down, Sharp liked what she heard and signed the young man to the record label.
