    Next door to Anjou and Normandy - central town Le Mans (yes, the one with the race). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maine_(province_of_France)
    Annexed by France in 1203, and very probably the place Maine, USA got its name from. (There's a map on Wiki.)
