Who composed the 'Planet Earth' TV theme song? I love it and would love to download it.

    Question #66215. Asked by jonnyd_.

I'm coming up with Sigur Rós. This entry at Amazon.com has links to listen to the songs on the CD so you can see if it is one of them.

I think I've narrowed it down.

To all you people out there who were wondering where that "piece of music" came from while listening to the Planet Earth advert, you will already have found yourself here, and that piece of music is called Hoppipolla, on track 3, of this fabulous album by Sigur Ros.

Question: Theme music to 'Planet Earth'?
What is the title of the theme music, and who is it by?

The name of the tune is Hoppípolla by an Icelandic boy band called Sigur Ros and is taken from their album Takk.

I have been looking for this song since the series was aired. I finally found it. It's called "The Time Has Come" by Gabriel Shadid and Tobias Marberger. This is the real song, no joke.

I think this is what you seek...

The song is called "The Time Has Come", composed by Gabriel Shadid & Tobias Marberger and released by APM as part of the Epic Action (Adventure 1) series. You may have heard it in the trailer for "Planet Earth".

Here (at the link) is a written description of "The Time Has Come" if that is what you're looking for. I'm not sure now if either of these are the "theme song" of the program itself or tracks used in commercials/trailers.

"Composed by Gabriel Shadid and Tobias Marberger, 'The Time Has Come' has all the elements of good trailer music, and allowed the Discovery Channel to hype 'Planet Earth' to a highly successful level (not that the incredible high-def footage wouldn't have made the show a hit anyway)."

George Fenton composed the theme and all the music for the whole series.

I think the problem here is that there are several pieces of music people have been calling "the theme to Planet Earth." Fenton did indeed score the series, but apparently there were other songs used in commercials and trailers.

"As a side note, Fenton's music was not featured in the trailers for the series, but used the track Hoppipolla from the album Takk by Icelandic band Sigur Ros. The album is available here, although don't expect the whole album to be like that - it's quite avant garde most of the time, but worthy of exploration."

Just to add to the confusion:

    Soundtrack

On November 20, 2006 a CD was released with a compilation of the incidental music in Planet Earth. The two-disc set was split between parts one and two of the series as originally transmitted. The music was composed by George Fenton and performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra.

The link includes a listing of 41 different songs on two separate CD's.

There is also a listing of the dates the songs throughout the series aired here:
