U.S. War Production Board halted the manufacture of television and radio broadcasting equipment for civilian use from April 1942 to October 1945, suspending the company's television plans.Because of the Korean War.

They stopped producing mechanical telivision systems because they didn't work very well and would never have developed the picture quality that electronic systems could provide. The Boy Genius and the Mogul by Daniel Stashower (the BG being inventor Philo T. Farnsworth and the mogul being TV tycoon David Sarnoff) tells the story of the the early days of television very well.
