How does swimmer's ear medication work? How is putting more water into your ears supposed to make there less water in your ears?

Swimmer's ear is not so much water in the ears as a bacterial or fungal infection that arises (mainly but not exclusively) from contact with water, such as swimming. The medications are intended to eliminate the infection.
