But why in the world would it ever be referred to as infamous? Fabulous, perhaps?

Infamous because it was bad luck for everyone who ever came into contact with it, an illustration of the belief that it's unlucky to change a ship's name.

Interesting. Never heard of that superstition--salvaged and refitted ships are quite often renamed. But what brought the thought to mind is the reference to Doyle's work being the culprit for creating the mystery of its short life, thus the 'infamy' tag, I suppose.

The name should have been Marie Celeste, but someone got it wrong! Robboy is right - many ships are renamed without any trouble. But you never hear about them, do you?

Which infamous criminal was arrested for murder by a Scotland Yard inspector on board a ship called the SS Montrose, and what makes the subsequent trial unique?

I would appreciate it if somone could help me out on this one. I vaguely recall reading an article which describes how a ship used a concentrated volume of sound to ward off some pirates which were attempting to illegally board the ship, and in so doing so successfully fended the pirates off by causing them to become disorientated. What was this new technique called and how was it so effective?
