    Is Woody Guthrie's song 'The Sinking of the Reuben James' based on an actual event, and if so, what year was it?

    		Yes it is. The Reuben James was performing convoy duty as part of a 'Neutrality Patrol' when it was sunk by a German submarine on 31st October, 1941.
