When you do something in "cold blood" you do it without being emotionally involved; in other words, you are detached. The murder is thought of in advance and the plans are executed in a ruthless manner, without the display of any emotion. You act like a cold-blooded animal.

Thank you for your research zbeckabee.
According to it it seems that at one point murders of passion were termed "in hot blood" while planned calm murders were called "in cold blood".
Today, for some reason unknown, the "hot blood" term is no longer used.

The term "Hot Blooded" has been superseded by the term "Crime of Passion"

Truman Capote's In Cold Blood is a cross between a detective story and a crime documentary.
