What is the difference between a forest and a jungle?

    Question #66664. Asked by Bruce007.

    Jubal

A jungle is a type of forest characterized by tropical plants. A forest is a collection of trees, shrubs, and other plants of which a jungle is one type. There are however other types of forests, namely, evergreen forests, hardwood forests, etc.

Originally a forest had nothing to do with trees - it was an area covered by special hunting laws - you can have a forest with no trees.

I am including this definition of Forest in support of Jubal's answer. The U.S. Government works VERY hard to keep me entertained...and I feel a moral responsibility to point it out "whenever" they get something right...

U.S. Federal Government: "Forest is defined as land with tree cover growing to more than 7 meters in height, and a density of about 20% or more of the land area. (UN-ECE 1992)"

Good point, tnrees. There aren't very many trees in the Forest of Bowland, and I don't think there ever were. New Forest is a bit scanty now, but there used to me more trees in earlier days.
