Andersonville is the name of the small town in Georgia outside of which Camp Sumter was built as a POW camp. I know this from personal knowledge, as a few of my family are buried there, but this site will shed some light on its history.

It appears that we didn't quite answer your quesiton, did we?
According to this site, Andersonville was a name bestowed by the US Postal Service on Anderson, Georgia, in order to distinguish this town from another "Anderson."
I've no idea who that original "Anderson" was. I'm sure that robboy must know.
