Billy Pilgrim: "I've visited thirty-one inhabited planets in the universe... Only on Earth is there any talk of free will". Billy is an optometrist in a dull and safe marriage and residing in 'Ilium', a fictional depiction of Troy, New York. He is also a prisoner of war in Dresden during World War II, and his later life is greatly influenced by what he saw during the war.
