Why did Prince Albert change his name to George upon acceding to the British throne in 1936?

According to this site on regnal names, the intention was to reinforce the stability of the monarchy after the abdication of Edward VIII. Prince Albert's father had been George V, and using George (which was, after all, one of his baptismal names) suggested continuity:

Albert never changed his name, he was always called Albert, or Bertie to intimates. He was given the Royal title of King George VI, but that was not his name.
