The first typewritten manuscript to be submitted was Life on the Mississipi by Mark Twain in 1883. The first word processor manuscript is harder to define, but would probably have been after 1970 when the dot matrix printer was invented.

Some writers still use typewriters. And some composers (myself included) still prefer pencils to the best in computer technology. (Puccini also preferred pencils to pens.)

Quite a few writers (me included) still prefer to use pen and paper and then to type up afterwards (on computer in my case) so that other people can understand what they've written. As to music, if I can remember a piece long enough to write it down (being an improviser), I sketch it out on paper first and then type it on the computer and listen to playback to see how to get it right!
