The classic Burt Bacharach song "Walk On By" has been covered many times by various artists. I am sure that I heard a version done in the 70's or 80's, by a band similar to Naked Eyes (but obviously not them). Does anyone know of this version and who the artist was?

    MIGHT be one of these:

Like many of Warwick's 1960s Bacharach-composed singles, it was also heavily covered a great deal in different ways, most notably by funk/soul musician Isaac Hayes, whose 1969 cover of the song on his groundbreaking Hot Buttered Soul album was transformed into a twelve-and-a-half minute funk vamp breaking ground for singles to release songs surpassing five minutes. In 1982, funk singer D-Train, recorded an R&B hit with the song mixing up Warwick's and Hayes' versions. In 1990, singer Sybil, who had scored her biggest hit a year prior with a cover of Warwick's "Don't Make Me Over", also scored an R&B hit with this song.

Walk On By" is a landmark 1964 single by American soul singer Dionne Warwick. Working with the collaborative team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David, the song became Warwick's signature song in spite of the fact that she has had more than two dozen hits in her career. The single reached #6 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1990, singer Sybil, who had scored her biggest hit a year prior with a cover of Warwick's "Don't Make Me Over", also scored an R&B hit with this song. Warwick's version remains the most notable and in 1998, the song was inducted to the Grammy Hall of Fame.

There is a site on the net where you can search for cover versions: www.coversproject.com. For some strange reasons I couldn't create a link to this site, so I covered (that worked!) the list I found there.

"* Walk on By was covered by Gloria Gaynor
    * Walk on By was covered by The Stranglers
    * Walk on By was covered by Average White Band
    * Walk On By was covered by Gabrielle
    * Walk on By was covered by Isaac Hayes
    * Walk on By was covered by Burt Bacharach
    * Walk On By was covered by Stan Getz
    * Walk On By was covered by Melissa Manchester
    * Walk on By was covered by Paul Carrack
    * Walk On By was covered by Sybil
    * Walk On By was covered by The Beach Boys
    * Walk on By was covered by The Mavis's
    * Walk on By was covered by Laura Nyro"

I hope this is some help to you.

When you mentioned Naked Eyes, I think you were thinking of "Always Something There to Remind Me." Written by Lou Johnson with a cover version by Warwick in 1967. It was covered by Naked Eyes in 1983
