The word no is 'iie' in Japanese but it's not used in the same way as no in English.You are only likely to use it in a situation where 'no' could not possibly cause offense (for example, in modestly denying a compliment) If you are declining a request, or in another situation where 'no' may not be the answer the other person wants to hear - then you should find a more round about way to say it. 'No' is too direct in many situations.
