Last Man Standing(1996), like Fist Full of Dollars(1964), is a retelling of the story in Yojimbo (1961), which is itself based on Dashiell Hammett's novel "Red Harvest" from 1927.

Akira Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai" was hugely influential, leading to "The Magnificent Seven," "Once Upon a Time in the West," and, ultimately, "Once Upon a Time in New York."

No, I considered trying to work Seven Samurai into it but I don't think Once Upon A Time In The West or America could be considered remakes, although as a big Kurosawa fan I'm delighted to acknowledge his influence on those movies.
