What I have heard is that white rice has been processed to remove the healthy fiber out of it. So I think that brown is heather because it has more fiber, takes longer to digest therefor keeping you feeling fuller longer and your blood sugar steady as well as giving you the fiber your digestion needs to keep healthy.

I eat bran every morning so my fibre is probably ok, and brown rice tastes like muck so I think I'll stick with the white (preferably basmati, yum).

I agree, I'd rather eat saw dust than brown rice, but the question was one of health not taste. I like jasmine rice, personally.

Because the husk contains fibre and vitamins that are removed when the rice is processed.
The process that produces brown rice removes only the outermost layer, the hull, of the rice kernel and is the least damaging to its nutritional value. The complete milling and polishing that converts brown rice into white rice destroys 67% of the vitamin B3, 80% of the vitamin B1, 90% of the vitamin B6, half of the manganese, half of the phosphorus, 60% of the iron, and all of the dietary fiber and essential fatty acids. Fully milled and polished white rice is required to be “enriched” with vitamins B1, B3 and iron.
