Is it true if you are an American non-Jew and decide to move to Israel after learning some Hebrew and Judaism, it is against the law to marry a Jewish girl?

As I understand it (and Arpeggionist may correct me), the situation is that there is no civil marriage in Israel. All marriages taking place there must be conducted according to religious rites. A non-Jew, therefore, cannot marry a Jew unless he or she converts under the supervision of an approved rabbi. Alternatively, the Jewish partner could convert to the non-Jewish partner's faith, and the two could be married in Israel according to Christian or Muslim rites.
However, persons who cannot or do not wish to marry in a religious ceremony can marry in civil ceremonies abroad, and their marriages will be recognized as legal in Israel. This is a somewhat controversial topic in Israel, and there has been some agitation to institute civil marriage.

It is, however, also the law that if two people were married by civil ceremony outside Israel, they would be recognized as married in Israel. (I know some Israelis who went to Cypress just to get married there by civil ceremony.)
If one converted to Judaism in Israel, it is not against any law or tradition for them to marry a Jewish woman. And one can be married by a Christian ceremony in Israel. There are plenty of legal ways around intermarriage in Israel, but at present the rabbinical courts still hold juristiction over marital law.
