They are the Good (or Penitent) Thief and the Bad Thief, sometimes called Dismas and Gesmas (or Gestas). In Luke 23, the bad thief questions Christ's identity and powers, since he cannot save himself or them. The Good Thief expresses penitence for his crimes and faith in Christ, and Christ promises that he will "be with me in Paradise."
