Is it safe enough to delete the files named INDEX.DAT?

I wouldn't recommend deleting any system file unless you know exactly what it is used for. The copies of index.dat I've examined seems to be a Client URL Cache, which is not very important, but there is no telling how the operating system will react if it is deleted. They tend to be very small, so there's no harm in leaving them there. Jul 19 06, 3:18 AM
