Does putting your ceiling fan to a minimum level reduce the consumption of electricity?

Question #68416. Asked by Banty. (Jul 18 06 1:37 PM)

Most likely. Depends on how the speed is controlled. Very likely to be resistance controlled, in which case the current to the motor is passed through a higher resistance for the slower speeds, and less current means less lecky. To test it, look at your meter on different settings. Faster it goes round, more lecky being used. (Watch out for the fridge coming in just at the wrong time, though!)
