What is the difference between yoghurt and curd?

    Question #68608. Asked by xyz123abc. (Jul 22 06 5:21 AM)

Yoghurt is a dairy product of Turkish origin, produced by bacterial fermentation of milk.It is the fermentationof milk sugar called lactose into lactic acid that gives yoghurt in gel like texture and charateristic tang.

Curd is also a dairy product obtained by curdling milk with rennet or an edible acidic substance such as lemon juice or vinegar and then draining off the liquid portion. The increased acidity causes the milk proteins tangle into solid masses or curds.

In India the word curd is used to mean yoghurt.
