The Alph is supposedly an "underground river" of Esotericism in Europe, symbolising the secret knowledge held in that Continent.

The Alph is in the Peloponnese in Greece. It runs within about a quarter of a mile of Olympia, site of the original Olympic Games. This is Alph the Sacred River of Coleridge's poem.

I never knew Kublai Khan lived in Greece... Mind you, Coleridge had been on something quite strong, by many accounts, before he wrote what there is of that poem. What a pity that person from Porlock interrupted.
