Some wrist watches feature batteries that have a 10 year life. Why isn't the same technology applied to standard batteries for other electronics?

It does exist but will never be put on the market, just like the everlasting light bulbs, because the companies would not make money. By not making them everlasting, they insure their incomes.

Watches use very little power, so it is practical to have a battery that lasts 10 years. The exact same battery in a mobile phone (cell phone) would only last a few days.

Many calculators have batteries that also last a very long time.

Thanks all - I'm certain the technology exists. As Caro mentioned, my guess it's because it would inhibit sales for standard batteries. Even so - if someone besides Duracell/Energizer produced it, I'm sure it would be a big seller, forcing competition.
Anyone have any links?

Watch batteries are readily available in shops, they are not secret. They use the same technology as other batteries.
