What distinguishes the screen demises of Francisco Scaramanga, Karl Stromberg, Hugo Drax, and Franz Sanchez from their fellow James Bond villains?

The only thing I can come up with is that their deaths were "up close" and "personal."
Bond then shoots the surprised Scaramanga in the heart. His body is then vaporized when the island explodes.
Bond pursues Stromberg, and after two failed attempts by Stromberg to kill Bond, Bond exercises his licence to kill, executing Stromberg with multiple gunshots to the chest.
Bond shoots Drax with his wrist dart and throws him out into space.
Just as Sanchez was about to kill him with a machete, Bond set him on fire and allowed him to stumble into his own tanker, causing it to explode and thus killing him.

My source said they were the only Bond villains actually shot by 007 (I'm not a fan myself), but Sanchez seems to buck the trend according to your research, Zbeck. Still, that's another one for you! Kudos.
