Because you feel the pain in the place where you imagine your heart to be, rather than in the place where you imagine your stomach to be.

Actually, heartburn occurs in the esophageal area which lies between the pharynx and the stomach.
WIKI: Heartburn actually has nothing to do with the heart; it is so called because of a burning sensation of the breastbone, although some heart problems have a similar sensation to heartburn.
