When you log online, what are those weird sounds that the computer makes as you are getting on?

The two modems send back and forth signals when connecting to determine the highest speed that the connection can be without an error. Once this has been determined the final connection takes place and the speaker turns off.

I believe the noise is called a "handshake", as one computer "introduces" itself to another.

If you have dial-up, then the modem is dialing into the ISP.

I turn off my modem speakers so I don't have to listen to that noise. I find it extremely annoying.

I am always "on-line" so the noises I hear when opening my Internet Explorer are from my three POPSWATTERS which have an exceptionally high "kill rate." Wham, Bam, Flim, Slap, Blip, Swat!!!

What causes the groaning sounds a computer makes when it is working?

Does anyone know who does the music in the Dell computer commercial? It sounds like 1960's rock music and the singer sounds kind of like Janis Joplin but it's such a small clip of the music it's hard to tell... I feel like I've heard it before and I like it a lot; it's gonna drive me nuts until I can figure out who it is!

Having just seen the name again after many years, does anyone know the origin of the weird (in my opinion) name of Teddy Ruxpin (just the Ruxpin bit, of course!) It doesn't even sound like any language I've heard, more like something a computer generated?
