I believe Elizabeth I was sitting beneath a tree when she got the word that she'd become Queen, while Elizabeth II became Queen while she was sitting in the top of a tree observing animals in Kenya. If I'm remembering correctly, however, Elizabeth II was actually told the news later, by her husband, after she'd descended from the tree.
Scroll down to "Succession" on the site below, which confirms that Elizabeth II was spending the night in the Treetops Hotel, a hut built in the branches of a fig tree, at the moment she succeeded.
However, according to Robert Lacey's biography "Majesty" (p. 150), of which I have a copy, she learned the news from Prince Philip some hours later, at the Sagana Lodge.
