The Mock Turtle is a fictional character devised by Lewis Carroll from his popular book Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Its name is a pun on a dish that was popular in the Victorian period, mock turtle soup.Mock turtle soup is an English soup that was created in the mid-18th century as a cheaper version of green turtle soup. It often uses brains and organ meats to duplicate the texture and flavor of the original.

Just wondered why the questioner considered Charles Dodgson / Lewis Carroll controversial as a mathematician?

I don't think she did. But he is somewhat controversial, and he was a mathematician, and peasy's questions usually offer indirect clues. Which is why they're both challenging and fun.

Dodgson is controversial because of his practice of photographing naked girls.

Yes, gdec, and a Golden Thingamibob to you.
Thankyou, Frankie, for explaining the reference. Yes, I do make indirect clues inside my questions, all of them in fact. Yes, he was a mathematician, and yes, he was considered controversial as a person, as per Gnomon's tote. Apart from the photography, there is a whole list under the sub-heading "Current Controversies and Mysteries" of Lewis Carroll here:
