Is it illegal to "spit" on public property?

I didn't realize it was 'most places', and I'd still question that, myself, but according to Jeff Ventura of the Columbia University News service... In most places in the United States, spitting in public is considered a minor crime. In Battle Creek, Mich., it is a disorderly conduct offense. In Prescott Valley, Ariz., spitting on sidewalks or in public buildings could bring a $500 fine. "Expectorating on a public surface" in Virginia is a violation of state law. Spitting (nasty or not) in public and spitting on public property are two separate actions, with fairly separate repercussions.
