    Actually, Asafa Powell holds the 100 metre record with a run of 9.77 seconds last year which he equalled in 2006.
    Although I must point out that by having longer to accelerate, 200 metre runners like Michael Johnson and 4 x 100 metre relay runners can reach higher running speeds than 100 metre runners. This is despite the "fastest man on earth" tag that 100 metre sprinters get labelled with.
