Recently archaeologists have found samples and have dated them at well over 10,000 years old. Some religions coincide an inciteful phrase pertaining to 'searching for the inconceivable' with the structure of them. Biologists, hower, have an intriguing name for them, naming them after a type of bovid. What are they, and what might be the English equivalent to that phrase?

    Question #70050. Asked by peasypod.

I believe it is what we know as the common day horse. Although 'bovid' throws me off. This term reminds me of a cow.

Good stab, but no. Try not to think 'animal'.

I guessed that this question might refer to a fruit cultivated in early antiquity, and the fig came to mind. Hermaphrodite figs are called caprifigs, after goats. In Hinduism and Buddhism, one can find the saying "seeking flowers in a fig tree," to express a pointless activity or to refer to something very rare and difficult to find, since fig flowers are actually hidden within the fruit. An English equivalent for the latter concept would be "scarce as hen's teeth."

Recent evidence of cultivated figs, found near Jericho, has been dated back at least 11,000 years:

Very good Frankie, I'm still wondering how that horse even got a mention, perhaps all those phrases we have in English about horses...
