    The circumstances were not mysterious. He was making his way back east to face corruption charges. He stopped overnight at an inn, placed one pistol to his head, another to his heart, and pulled both triggers simultaneously. He apparently suffered from manic depression (now trendily called bi-polar disorder) all his life, a fact noted by his former boss, Pres. Jefferson, who referred to it by then then-popular term "melancholy."
