When this classic film was re-released in the early 1990s, an important scene originally removed from it was restored, but without the audio, which was missing. One of the actors involved was able to re-record his dialogue, but the other was dead, so a third well-known actor was asked to mimic his voice. What is this film, who were the two actors in this scene, and who dubbed the famous dead man?

    Question #70605. Asked by lanfranco.

    McGruff

    Spartacus

The restored version also includes a formerly deleted bathhouse scene in which Laurence Olivier plays a bisexual Roman senator (with restored dialogue dubbed by Anthony Hopkins) who gets hot and bothered over a slave servant played by Tony Curtis.

And the silver mace to you, McG. Evidently, Hopkins is a talented mimic and had been Olivier's protege early in his career, so he was a natural for this task. Tony Curtis, it seems, was 66 years old when he re-recorded his part. It must have been rather an interesting experience for him.
