On BBC's TV show 'Topgear' who is "The Stig"?

Question #70746. Asked by oviphagy. (Sep 15 06 5:53 AM)

Can't seem to find more than this...it just says Stig is himself!

    The Stig
Some say he urinates 98 RON petrol, and that he can smell corners. No one knows when the Stig was born, or how. But we do know why he was placed upon the Earth. To drive quickly. He has a penchant for prog rock, and rumour has it, likes his eggs sunny side up.

The Stig can be anyone, that's the beauty of him/her.

A number of different people have filled in for stunts or special cars (Renault F1, Maserati MC12).

The main track driver was Perry McCarthy until he went public, that's when they killed him off with the XJS aircraft carrier stunt.

There have been strong rumours that Julian Bailey has been Stig in the past.

The main Stig now is (allegedly) Ben Collins, a top all round racer, ideal for the test track sequences. He's also involved in the driving for things like the MPH shows with Jeremy.

http://www.bencollinsracing.com/... here's his website but he doesn't give anything away, he doesn't want a watery grave like the first Stig!!!

Hi there, the Stig is actually Nigel Mansell - I got this info from a mate of mine in the UK who was at a taping of Top Gear Extra - the best car show in the world!
Oops!! Sorry, my mistake - the stig is not Nigel Mansell but is in fact Damon Hill.

The first Stig (Black Stig) has its own website, the second seem to be a number of guys (there's a height difference), but I wouldn't mind driving like any of them, or to be a part of TopGear's crew and have my way with those cars! See link at:

    Who is "The Stig"?

In the British TV series 'Top Gear', what is the identity of 'The Stig'?

I'm looking for information on an old TV show from the late 60's or early 70's that appeared on public broadcasting. It was referred to as 'experimental TV', and I think the name of the show might have had the word 'strawberry' in it. This show had no characters or plot in the usual sense, but it was mainly about a guy who's stuck in a room or a box and has nothing but a chair. There was very little action and the whole thing was quite surreal. Does anyone else remember this show?
