Petronas Towers in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia (designed by Argentinian architect Cesar Pelli) are currently the tallest 'self-supporting' buildings in the world. The CN Tower in Toronto is still taller, but is supported by cables, so it falls into a separate category. SOM is designing a taller skyscraper for Shanghai, China, but I don't know the progress on this.

Burj Dubai ("Dubai Tower") is a super-tall skyscraper currently under construction in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. When it is completed in 2008, it is predicted to be the tallest man-made structure in the world. Scheduled for occupancy in September 2009, the building is part of a 2 kmē (0.8 sq mi) development called 'Downtown Dubai' and is located at the "First Interchange" (aka "Defence Roundabout") along Sheikh Zayed Road at Doha Street.
