FANS (Future Air Navigation System) is a next-generation total air traffic system that includes communication, navigation, and monitoring functions. Its purpose is to cope with the increasing volume of air traffic and provide more effective navigation. Its implementation is underway worldwide, mainly through the auspices of ICAO. ANA is working towards installing a FANS system with satellite communications and navigation functions onboard our B747-400 and other aircraft serving our international routes. In addition to participating in a trial of a satellite navigation and communication, ANA is moving forward with hardware and software for navigational aid facilities on the ground for this future air navigation system.
