This composer had an unusual incident happen at school. In the sick-room, he told the nurse that the floor was glowing after the lights were turned out. After they didn't believe him, the floor actually went on fire. Later in life he may well have had 400 varieties of apple in his orchard. Who was he?

Well, I keep coming back to Gerald Finzi, and his fancy for pomology. Can't seem to find this paranormal floor, though.

Finzi it is. The floor wasn't paranormal, there was an electrical fault underneath it! My source for that bit of info was 'Composer of the Week' (the midnight one this week) on BBC Radio 3. Available on demand for a week - but I can't remember which of the five programmes it came in. ('Composer of the Week' runs first at midday Mon-Fri, then repeats the next week at midnight.) The apples gave it, anyway... I won't offer a Golden Delicious because they're horrible, so have a Golden Pearmain, which he probably had in his orchard.

I live on the Apple Isle, sick of apples, do you have a spare Golden Star Anise laying about?
