In what Broadway musical does one of the main characters sing a self debasing song that claims, among other things, to have been "spawned in a ditch"? What is the name of the musical and the name of the character who sings this song?

As to the “other” joke, the Broadway one, we claimed that we were about to sing our most requested song from audiences around the country, at which point we broke into “Aldonza” from Man of LaMancha, which we sang as a dramatic trio with syncronized movements, shaking our fists in fury at the world.

You have to have seen that show to get the joke. It’s a highly overwrought though effective song sung by the leading lady Aldonza, where she says what hell her entire life has been. It’s not a song anyone in his or her right mind would ever sing out of context, and it makes it worse to sing it as a trio, with the lyrics going from “I was spawned in a ditch by a mother who left me there” to “we were spawned in a ditch by a mother who left us there”.

That's it! This song may be the most emotionally powerful and hard hitting song ever sung in any musical . . .

I was spawned in a ditch by a mother who left me there, naked and cold and to hungry to cry,
I never blamed her I'm sure she left hoping that
I'd have the good sense to die!

And of course there's my father.
I'm told that young ladies can point to their
    fathers with maidenly pride.
Mine was the regiment, here for an hour,
I can't even tell you which side!

So, of course, I became, as befitting my
    delicate birth.
The most casual bride of the murdering
    scum of the earth.

    etc.
