    In Kmart stores, one of the departments is a separate company from the rest of the store, the employees are employed by a company other than Kmart. What department is it within the store and what is the name of the company?

    Footstar is a shoe retailer based in Mahwah, New Jersey. After a 2005 restructuring, it principally conducts business through its Meldisco Segment which sells and operates family footwear stores principally within Kmart stores as part of Footstar's Shoemart unit. Under a July 2005 agreement with Kmart, Footstar will continue operating stores within Kmart until 2008 at which point Footstar will sell the remaining inventory to Kmart and wind down the business.

    		The only reason I knew the answer to that question and the reason I asked it is because back in 1990-1991 I was employed by Meldisco as the manager of the footwear department at a local K-mart.

    		I knew because I went to one of the K Marts that were closing and the shoe reps were liquidating inventory with their own cash register. Being as inquiring as I am, I asked what the deal was and a complete answer was provided at no extra cost!
