There was a book of sci-fi short stories written by a Hugo winning author who also penned 'Enemy Mine'. Who is the author, the book, and how did the book get its strange name?

    Question #71593. Asked by CaptBeano.

Barry B Longyear. The book is 'It Came From Schenectady' but I am not sure how it got it's name, unless it is set in New York (Schenectady being the 9th largest city in New York State).

    Ah ha!

So, where do you get your ideas?

Harlan Ellison's answer to the question above was: "A post office box in Schenectady. You send in two dollars and a self-addressed stamped envelope and they send you back an idea."

Hence, when it came time to present a collection of mine, each piece preceded by a brief description of the origins of the story, the title of the collection became obvious. Despite the title, these are not all humorous stories.

Who wrote the most short stories in the last 200 years?

First published in the 1940's in a respected American magazine, this famous and macabre short story, set in a small town, stunned its early readers, who sent torrents of abuse -- or merely bewildered inquiries -- to the author. It was also banned in South Africa. Today, it is regularly anthologized and has been fodder for many interpretations, though the author herself once admitted that she'd had no specific meaning in mind. What is it, and who wrote it?
