On neopets.com, what was the first ever design for any Neopet, and which species was it?

    Question #71667. Asked by ganondorf319. (Oct 20 06 4:13 PM)

The very first Neopet, Thyassa the Chia, was "born" on November 14, 1999 (the day before the site was officially opened).

My fellow towhead is correct. Thyassa was the first individual neopet, and naturally his species the Chia was the first type of pet introduced.

As an avid Neopian trophy collector and lover of the site, I can supply with a bunch of Chia-related info.

Thyassa is a Purple Chia who has withstood his status as the top notch Gormballer. As reads his profile at neopets.com's homepage of Gormball, "He may seem cute, and playful, but he is nothing of the sort. Thyassa is the most devious clever Gormball player ever on the face of Neopia. Ranked #1 in the world, and undefeated in all major championships. This Chia is one to be reckoned with!" He took the Annual Gormball Championship in Years 2, 3, and 6, though illness and boredom with the sport he has mastered has ruined his chances on several occasions.

In Gormball, a pulsating, aquaneous light blue to dark blue orb is tossed around in a circle of contenders until it explodes on a player. That player will be sopped as the ball comes apart and will be eliminated from the game. The concept is quite simple - a champ is declared when he/she is the only competitor remaining. This game is not only publicized each year on the 23rd of the Month of Gathering, but can also be played by users at neopets.com! It costs 20 NP to qualify, and can reward much greater prizes such as rare items, cash, and trophies.
