Earwax, also known by the medical term cerumen, is a yellowish, waxy substance secreted in the ear canal of humans and many other mammals. It plays a vital role in the human ear canal, assisting in cleaning and lubrication, and also provides some protection from bacteria, fungus, and insects.

I will add that unless it's actually blocking the ear a doctor recommended to leave it there as it is meant to be there for the above reasons. Though it seems cleaner to try and remove it I'd side with a doctor anytime. And NEVER use a Qtip or cotton bud as it pushes the wax further in!

My doctor said you should not put anything in your ear sharper than your elbow. Not being double jointed, I have tried unsuccessfully so I have to use my wife's.
