What term is given to a lax performance for a certain card game, a form of government, an amalgam of diversities, and an example of European fare named after a group of cattle?

Question #71754. Asked by peasypod. (Oct 24 06 3:45 PM)

    Laissez Fare

No, sorry. A hint, though. This word is a style of a card game, and a type of dish.

Googling any of the key words in the question is unlikely to produce a direct hit.

Drifter? I believe there is a version of poker called high Stakes Drifter and I recall a chocolate bar in the UK called Drifter (and drift being a group of cattle etc). Probably completely wrong as I don't see how it ties in to the rest of the question.

Nice try wendy, but no. Think of a meal, not candy.

I do believe we're talking about "goulash":

Yes Frankie we are talking goulash, and it happened to hit me on the head the other night when I was playing bridge. (The concept, not the goulash...)

I haven't played bridge since high school, but the conjunction of "European fare" and "amalgam of diversities" was helpfully suggestive.

There is a card game that I have forgotten the name of. The basics are that there are four players in teams of two. You are each dealt 13 cards, you decide either to "grand" by showing a black card, or fo "low" by showing a red card. The goal of the game is either to grand and take tricks or go low and not take tricks. Does anyone recognise the game?
