WAM is probably right about the ancient guy showing off for his winsome cavewoman, but the couple probably ate whatever the guy speared. Why waste it? However, we do have some illustrations of hunting for sport that date back some thousands of years. The site below includes a relief belonging to a series depicting a royal lion hunt among the Assyrians and dated to about 645 BCE.
