There was a persistent urban myth about a host of a popular teen quiz show on UK TV in the 80s having played saxophone on a classic song. Who was he, what was the show, what was the song, and who really played this most recognisable of sax breaks?

That would be Bob Holness of "Blockbusters" who was supposed to have played saxophone on Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street". The actual performer was Rafael Ravenscroft.
