    It is a fictional seafood dish that figured in a series of novels, later adapted for television, and was named after a certain location. The recipe was never revealed after the first line, despite one character's attempt to bribe a cook for it. Another author dreamed up a wartime rationing version for a parody inspired by the novels. What is this literary gastronomic treat, in what series does it appear, and what significant substitution is made in the wartime recipe?

    This is 'Lobster à la Riseholme', from the Benson series of 'Mapp and Lucia'. The war-time substitute is the, *uggghhh* 'Corned beef à la Riseholme'.

    What, you don't think that corned beef swimming in Marsala sauce (or whatever it is) sounds delicious?

    I happen to agree with you. And you get the silver spoon!

    I'll take your word for it, Baloo, but your recipe is safe from me: I won't be trying to steal it. ;

    I thought that Chilli Con Corney was invented by a crippled member of a religious order called Friar Bent Toes

    I think I've told you this before, SOTHC, but you scare me sometimes.

    Though I am sort of curious about peasy's experiences with sweaty basketball players ....

    That's just being greedy Peasy as four should have been enough

    Are you sure that Baloo didn't steal that Chilli Con Corny dish from Mrs SOTHC?

    It's the honey and wholemeal bread crumbs that make the difference... So far as I am aware, I have never met any of SOTHC's wives.
